What is management?

Management is the ability of a person to get thing done by others. In fact he himself will not be doing or working out the small details, which is left for the others to be carried out. But while the others under him perform their work, the manager will certainly know as to what is being done by each of the people under him. In a broad sense, the details of the project are discussed in detail with the subordinates, so that they can get a clear picture as to what is expected of them. The sole responsibility of running a project is that of the manager.

In order to know whether the people under him are doing their duty, he will then have to monitor each of the workers, work etc. either directly or indirectly. It is not physically possible to monitor all that is going on under him, even though he is solely responsible for the project, and/or the work. In order to monitor the project, he must have in place, a number of details, checks, progress of work, bottle necks, their solutions, understanding, logic, commonsense, farsightedness, balance of mind, perseverance etc.

Is he is not able to have all these virtues, methodologies, arrangements, logistics etc. in place then it is possible that, things may go wrong, and then he along with him & the persons under him will have to work overtime to correct the situation/s. and the project could take a long time to complete and there would be cost overruns/ the persons under him would get disgusted, and lose interest. Once these lose interest, it would take a Herculean task to rectify the situation. It is always possible to correct these types of situations. Therefore it is very essential to discuss the project threadbare, and no details should be kept under wraps.
